Somewhere familiar.
At home, out for the day, or somewhere important to your family. No elaborate setting required.
A brother and sister. A shared photographic language. And a particular fascination with the way life unfolds.
Documentary family photography by Dominique & Liam Shaw.
We're Dominique and Liam Shaw. Brother and sister, photographers, and two people who've spent a great deal of their lives looking for the extraordinary in the everyday.
We started photographing together long before York Place existed. Over time we've developed a way of seeing that feels instinctive to both of us, even when we're standing in completely different parts of a room.
It's why we usually photograph families together. Two perspectives, but one cohesive collection of photographs.
We're fascinated by the little things that make people who they are. The familiar expressions, the funny interactions, the stories playing out in the background.
Think about the photographs you love of your own family. Often it's the way someone is standing, the old sofa, a favourite jumper or an expression you recognise instantly.
Those details might seem insignificant at the time. Years later, they can mean everything.
The interesting things happen in between.

We don't turn up with poses to work through. We don't ask you to repeat something for the camera or arrange scenes to make them look more interesting.
We simply spend time with your family. At home, out together or in the middle of a celebration. You get on with your day. We pay attention.
We don't direct. We don't pose. We simply see.
Having two of us isn't about photographing twice as many things. It's about noticing different things at the same time.
One of us might be following the action while the other sees the reaction. Two ways into the same moment, brought together in a collection that feels whole.

At home, out for the day, or somewhere important to your family. No elaborate setting required.
There's no need to organise activities for us, dress everyone alike or persuade anybody to smile on cue.
Children can be children. The day can unfold naturally. We'll find the photographs in everything that happens.
We photograph digitally and on real 35mm film. The equipment changes, but the way we see doesn't.
Based in Yorkshire and the North East, and happy to travel further afield. Tell us a little about your family and what you have in mind.
